We
are presenting Frank Stella, born in Massachusetts in 1936, an American
star artist in the last 40 years.
At the age of 22, Stella moves to New York in 1958, when he is strongly
inspired and influenced by Jasper Johns through his exhibition at Leo Castelli
Gallery. This results in Stella's historic works, Black Series, and he quickly
becomes one of the most established Minimal artists in the art world.
Through Copper Series, Irregular Polygon Series, Protractor Series, and
Exotic Bird Series, his expression in monochrome gradually changes to brighter
and more colorful ones; from austere two-dimensional images with black parallel
stripes to pictures on shaped canvases, and then to three-dimensional reliefs.
Our new exhibition, Frank Stella: from BLACK to COLORS, presents an overview
of Stella's art, by showing his significant works; Criss Cross from early
Black Series, prints of Black Series, two big relief sculptures, models
regarded as a part of his project proposal, and The Wave series prints (1985-1988).
We hope you will enjoy "Stella's world", following the track of the dramatic
changes from black to colors, and of the compositional changes from tide
paintings into protrusive three-dimensional works.
